Candidate Questionnaires:

MCB District 6: McCann, Summers, Schuster, Evertsen

Eight candidates are running for four open seats on the McHenry County Board from District 6, which covers the western, mostly rural part of the county.

Incumbents Diane Evertsen, Mary McCann and Ersel Schuster are joined by Michele Aavang on the Republican side.

The Democrats on the ballot are Scott Summers, Jay Kadakia and Ryan Heuser.

Larry Smith is running as an independent. Republican incumbent Randy Donley is not seeking re-election.

A lawyer from Harvard, Summers is a past member of the McHenry County College Board. He supports a continued freeze of the county’s property tax levy that coincides with a smaller, more efficient county government. He also favors smart, healthy economic development while also preserving the county’s rural character.

Schuster, Evertsen and McCann have been effective as incumbent members of the County Board.

Schuster, a small-business owner from Woodstock, says she not only supports a levy freeze, but also an actual reduction. This, she said, will force the County Board to find ways to cuts costs, eliminating the services that the county does not have to provide or that can be done more efficiently by the private sector.

A retired business administrator from Harvard, Evertsen is a strong voice on the board for taxpayers, and says she will continue to vote to freeze the county’s levy. She’s an advocate for better transparency and accountability in county government.

Woodstock resident McCann, owner of McCann Berry Farm, brings her extensive knowledge of agribusiness to the board. She wants to control costs while having the county continue to provide a necessary level of services without raising taxes.

We recommend Summers, Schuster, Evertsen and McCann.
