Decatur looks to wells for drought relief
DECATUR, Ill. — The Decatur City Council has decided to spend $1.59 million to drill four temporary water wells to supplement the local water supply during the drought.
The Herald & Review newspaper reports the wells also will allow a consulting firm hired by the city to determine whether permanent wells can be drilled at the site.
The city relies on Lake Decatur for water. But the reservoir has dropped during this year's drought to levels low enough to require water-use restrictions.
