Smiles are contagious

To the Editor:

An open “Shop With A Cop” thank-you letter.

You should see the smiles on the faces of children as they roam the aisles of Walmart, a police officer at their side, shopping for Christmas presents their families otherwise couldn’t afford.

You’d be surprised how often the officers have to remind these children to pick out a gift for themselves.

Here at Mc3, a business networking group with the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, we’ve had the pleasure of working to help make Shop With A Cop a success for the past five years. In the process, we’ve found that the smiles are contagious.

Last year, with the help of businesses and individuals, Mc3 raised $14,000 for Shop With A Cop. This made a tremendous difference in the kind of Christmas 75 children had.

McHenry County Police Charities screens applicants for the program. The parameters for acceptance are determined by the amount of money raised. The more funding, the more children can be accepted.

We’re asking for your help to ensure that all the kids whose families have fallen on hard times can be helped, especially at Christmas.

If you’d like to experience a little of our joy yourself and make a donation, or if you have any questions, please contact Mike Kutnick, Mc3 SWAC co-chairman, at 815-353-7955 or check out our website at Mc3online.

Whether you can help at this time, please consider this an invitation to attend our sixth annual fundraising event Nov. 15 at the McHenry VFW Hall.

Thank you for any help you might be able to give and any help that you have given in the past.

Mike Kutnick

Mc3 SWAC co-chairman, McHenry
