To the Editor:

During these tough economic times, it is essential that we get the most out of every dollar we spend. With recent fiscal irresponsibility within the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, it has become apparent that the current system of appointed trustees of the fire district is not working.

As a taxpayer of the fire district, and a 30-plus-year veteran of the fire service, I find it imperative that we eliminate that “good old boys” system of appointed trustees and bring in an electoral process for the election of trustees of the MTFPD. Therefore, I am petitioning to bringing the public question of “whether the trustees of the MTFPD be elected” to the ballot in the spring 2013 election.
