Illinois issues nearly $40M in education grants
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Nearly $40 million in federal money has been awarded to help seven Illinois schools improve student performance and college readiness.
The Illinois State Board of Education announced the recipients Wednesday. Twenty schools in eight Illinois districts already are undergoing changes with federal School Improvement Grant Program funding.
State Board chairman Gery Chico says the money must go to districts "committed to take on dramatic transformation initiatives to improve their schools."
