To the Editor:
When Barack Obama was elected, it seemed that he came out of nowhere and there were a number of people who said their job was to do everything they could to make him a one-term president. They followed up on that all through his term.
Normally in America, when an election is completed, there is a winner, because the majority of the people have said so. Then, the people who lost the election are supposed to get behind the winner to help him do what the people elected him to do.
That didn’t happen. The people who didn’t win the election may well get their way and be elected in the next election.
We are told all of our lives about being a good sport about losing and make sure you tell your kids to do the same.
What if the winners of the last election become the losers of the next election? Will there be another group of people who say their job is to make the next president a one-term president?
What do we tell our kids then? Don’t be a good sport and the majority doesn’t always rule.
No matter how it works out, the rule is that a president can only serve two terms, so we can’t get stuck with a dictator.
