Union dues
To the Editor:
Mr. Carlos Acosta (It’s Your Write, Oct. 12), your AFSCME union dues have purchased and bought some of the most corrupt and duplicitous politicians in the U.S. You forgot to mention that Gerald McEntee, president of the AFSCME, makes $555,367 a year, and that in 2010 AFSCME had 16 executives at the national headquarters who made in excess of $200,000 a year, and almost half its headquarters’ employees made more than $75,000 a year.
If any of the Local 2833 leadership also works for a municipality, they can work on union business during regular working hours and receive “official time” or “release time” and get paid for that union business time at taxpayer expense.
