2 events lets you root for oak trees

WOODSTOCK – It’s Oak-tober at The Land Conservancy of McHenry County. Between now and the end of the month, there are two ways residents can help with oak conservation in the county.

From 2 to 6 p.m. today, there will be an oak savanna reforestation party near Harvard.

So far this month, 180 oak seedlings have been planted on about 3.5 acres that once was part of a vast oak woodland. Volunteers will help plant an additional 100 oak seedlings. Volunteers should wear clothes appropriate for the weather and sturdy footwear. All tools are provided; no experience is necessary. Refreshments will be provided, and pizza will be served at the end of the event.
