Jaycees need help

To the Editor:

I don’t often ask for real, honest-to-goodness help, but I’m asking today. The Crystal Lake Jaycees need you now more than ever. After 60-plus years as a very active chapter in the community, we may find ourselves without a board of directors for 2013.

What does this mean? It means no projects. No Junior Bowling. No Bachelor Auction. No SEDOM Prom. No Share-A-Christmas. No Burleson Scholarship.

We won’t be able to run any of our own programs or help out other organizations, such a Lakeside Legacy, the American Cancer Society, St. Baldrick’s, the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce or the Crystal Lake Park District.

I urge you to think about the tremendous impact our chapter has on the community and what it would mean if we couldn’t offer our assistance anymore. If this scares and saddens you the way it scares and saddens me, please come to our next chapter meeting (7:30 p.m. Nov. 5, Dole Mansion) to determine how you can help us.

We welcome longtime members as well as prospective members – ages 18-41 – who want to better the lives of the people in the great city of Crystal Lake and surrounding areas. The only way to fix this dire situation is with your help and leadership.

Kate Wade

2012 community vice president, Crystal Lake Jaycees
