Harvard boy, 17, charged with sex abuse

HARVARD – A 17-year-old Harvard boy was charged with criminal sexual abuse in the alleged assault of a 15-year-old girl at an underage drinking party, police said.

The girl told police she was sexually assaulted Sept. 28 at a party in Harvard. The assault was reported the next day.

The teenage boy was charged Oct. 16 with a Class A misdemeanor.

"It took awhile because of the circumstances, because it was an underage juvenile party and you get it secondhand, then you have to go back and build [a case]," Harvard Police Chief Dan Kazy-Garey said.

The juvenile was released to a parent and referred to McHenry County's juvenile court services, Kazy-Garey said.

The girl never was hospitalized, he said.

A 16-year-old Harvard boy who is suspected of hosting the party at his house while his parents were away was charged Oct. 16 with unlawful activity.

Also charged was 23-year-old Ernesto Ramos Avalos of 102 Garfield St. on a warrant that alleges he provided alcohol to minors. Avalos surrendered to police, posted $150 bond and was released. His next court date is Nov. 14.
