MCC to host Calle Sur
for Day of the Dead

CRYSTAL LAKE – McHenry County College will host a Day of the Dead program featuring Calle Sur, a Colombian-Panamanian duo who will perform with other musicians for their “Viva Mexico” musical debut from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday featuring music from Mexico and South America.

After the performance, Calle Sur members will enlighten the audience with a historical presentation of Day of the Dead from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Both activities will be in the Luecht Conference Center at the college, 8900 Route 14.

The Day of the Dead is a cherished, complex Mexican holiday celebration where the whole family comes together to remember and honor the dead.

Refreshments will be provided after the performance and lecture.

Calle Sur also will perform Latin American music from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the college’s cafeteria.

A Day of the Dead altar created by the Latinos Unidos student organization will be on display through Nov. 3 across from the Student Life Office, Room A252.

The event and display is free and open to the public.
