Rachel’s Challenge event today at Heineman

ALGONQUIN – Heineman Middle School will host a Rachel’s Challenge Community Event at 7 p.m. today in the gym of the school, 725 Academic Drive.

Families from the District 158 community are invited to attend the free presentation. However, some images and topics may not be suitable for very young children.

Rachel’s Challenge aims to equip and inspire young individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying and negativity with acts of respect, kindness and compassion. It is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott, who was the first victim of the 1999 Columbine High School shootings in Colorado.

Schools use Rachel’s Challenge as a response to problems such as bullying, student isolation, teen suicide, discrimination, school violence and increased disciplinary actions.

For information about the Rachel’s Challenge organization, visit www.rachelschallenge.org.

For information regarding the community presentation, contact James Litchfield, Heineman assistant principal, at 847-659-4300 or jlitchfield@district158.org.
