Literacy tutor orientation planned in Elgin
ELGIN – A free orientation to learn about becoming an adult literacy tutor for The Literacy Connection will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Meeting Room 2 at the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin, 270 N. Grove Ave.
The session is open to the public, and registration is not required.
With nearly 250 adults waiting to be matched with a tutor, The Literacy Connection is looking for volunteer tutors who can help individuals reach their literacy goals.
The need for basic literacy and English education throughout the agency’s largest service area, Kane County, is overwhelming. The Literacy Connection serves basic literacy learners and English-as-a-second-language learners.
Tutors are matched with a learner upon completion of tutor training.
Tutor training will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 3, 10 and 17.
Tutors can complete training in one month or over several months depending on their availability.
The Literacy Connection, an affiliate of ProLiteracy, serves 16 northwest suburban Chicago communities including Algonquin, Carpentersville, Cary, East Dundee, West Dundee, Gilberts, Hampshire, Huntley and Lake in the Hills.
