LAKE IN THE HILLS – The McHenry County Health Department will offer a free prostate cancer screening from 8 to 10 a.m. Nov. 3 at the American Legion Post 1231, 1101 W. Algonquin Road.
Through a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health, the PSA blood test is being offered at no cost to McHenry County men ages 50 and older.
Space is limited. To register, call 815-334-4536.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men and the second-leading cancer cause of death, after lung cancer.
It is estimated that one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime.
Risk factors for prostate cancer may increase as men age if there is a family history or if they are of African-American origin. Symptoms can be different for every man – pain or difficulty urinating, frequent urinating, blood in urine or pain in back/hips/pelvis that doesn’t go away. Some men have no symptoms. Early detection allows for intervention and appropriate treatment.
