Fire knocks out kitchen at Ill. prison work camp
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — State officials say fire heavily damaged the kitchen of a prison work camp in far southern Illinois.
Department of Corrections spokeswoman Stacey Solano says fire crews were called to the Hardin County Work Camp at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The facility in Cave in Rock holds about 240 inmates. Solano says they were moved from their living quarters to a nearby gymnasium and returned when fire crews left the scene about 11:30 p.m.
