McHenry wins Treatment Plant of the Year award

This press release came into the newsroom Thursday from the city of McHenry:

The City of McHenry is the recipient of an award from the Fox Valley Operator’s Association (FVOA). At the October 19th meeting held in Elgin, Jason Treat, president of the FVOA, presented the 2012 Treatment Plant of the Year award to Russell Ruzicka, Wastewater Superintendent for the City of McHenry.

The FVOA is an organization made up of wastewater industry professionals and currently consists of 150 members. It is dedicated to the continuing education of its members and the sharing of information between its members and municipalities. The FVOA conducts monthly meetings which are held at a different treatment plant or facility each time. The City of McHenry hosted the meeting in November of 2011 at the South Wastewater Treatment Plant. A presentation and tour highlighting the recent expansion of the South Wastewater Treatment Plant (SWWTP) was given by HR Green, the engineering firm hired by the City. The presentation focused on the innovations and upgrades at the SWWTP.

The Treatment Plant of the Year award is based on the overall appearance and performance of the treatment plant in addition to the presentation and tour. The winner is decided by the executive board of the FVOA.
