‘No’ on referendum

To the Editor:

I attended the county executive referendum debate and now really understand why Rep. Jack Franks put it on the ballot.

During opening statements, Rep. Mike Tryon calmly and clearly outlined the dangerous new powers that would come along with adding a new executive layer of government in McHenry County. Franks spent his opening statement yelling about why he doesn’t like the current County Board chairman.

Throughout the debate, as Tryon pointed to the real opportunities for corruption and cronyism that come along with a county executive style of government, Franks kept bringing his comments back to his dislike of the current board chairman. Franks also kept referring to an apples-to-oranges comparison of tax rates between McHenry County and the only Illinois county to use a county executive.

I hope others see this referendum for the politically motivated act of revenge that it really is and join me in voting “no” on the referendum.
