Change status quo
To the Editor:
Prior to the debate on the county executive form of government, I was unsure of how to vote, but now am enthusiastically in favor of if after learning the facts. The county executive referendum gives citizens the right to directly vote for the leader of the County Board, which will lead to accountability. We will have someone to hold accountable for property tax increases and questionable practices.
The executive and County Board would be equal branches of government resulting in checks and balances. Currently, there is no restraint on the chairman’s power. With an executive, all major decisions would have to be approved by the board. No longer would insider deals and cronyism go unchallenged.
