To the Editor:
The county executive referendum will not add another layer of government nor increase government spending. It will do exactly the opposite. It can and will replace the county administrator and County Board chairman, and their respective salaries and perks of $300,000 yearly.
The incoming executive salary could be about one-fourth of that total and eliminate one large layer of non-popularly elected government.
The previous negative letters to the editor are partisan efforts to defeat real reform.
The County Board has overtaxed the citizens by $47 million. Returning this surplus would slash our property taxes by 20 percent. These monies came about by 21 straight years of overtaxing residents while our real estate values drastically decline.
Taxpayers must vote for this county executive position and have a final say in order to directly elect a leader of the County Board and hold the board accountable.
Vote “yes,” county executive referendum.
