Kiwanis thanks

To the Editor:

As a member of the Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club, I want to thank Crystal Lake and the surrounding communities for their support of our 2012 Peanut Days, held the last weekend of September. Due to the efforts of our Kiwanians, volunteers, and the Crystal Lake South High School Key Club collecting donations and giving away peanuts, we were able to raise more than $2,700 to donate to local children’s organizations.

A thank you to Joseph’s Marketplace, Jewel-Osco, Country Donuts, and Starbucks for allowing us to collect donations near their place of business and to the businesses and individuals who made donations or purchased cases of peanuts or trail mix. We still have some cases for sale at $40 each.

A big thank you goes out to the community that donated to our causes. The money will go to much-needed use at organizations such as the Crystal Lake South Key Club, SEDOM, Bravehearts Therapeutic Riding, Harvard Middle School, and Husmann Elementary, just to name a few.

On Dec. 2, we will be holding our first Kiwanis Santa Run for Kids event, joining efforts with several of the area’s nonprofit organizations. If you are interested in participating by running or walking a 5k in a Santa suit or 1 mile in reindeer antlers, sign up today at www.kiwanissantarunforkids.org or email us at KiwanisCL@owc.net.

Better yet, consider joining our growing organization at one of our meetings the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at noon at the Crystal Lake Country Club.
