Long overdue change

To the Editor:

Career politician Donna Mayberry’s recent letter to the editor failed to disclose that she is the former McHenry County supervisor of assessments. She wrote that county government represents only about 8 percent of their property taxes. Now, 8 percent may not seem like much to an overpaid former government employee with free health care and a big pension (guaranteed to increase 3 percent a year), but to me, 8 percent would pay my cable bill for a year or necessary home repairs, or a host of other things that I, and not the government, could decide on how to spend my money.

Saving on my property taxes is reason enough to vote for the county executive form of government. Telling the good ol’ boys that change is long overdue and holding our public officials accountable is a bonus that will pay dividends for generations.
