CRYSTAL LAKE – The community is invited to view the movie, “Food, Inc.,” presented by Phi Theta Kappa student honor society Nov. 9 at McHenry County College.
Healthy refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the movie begins at 7 p.m. in the Luecht Conference Center at MCC, 8900 Route 14.
In “Food, Inc.,” filmmaker Robert Kenner explores where the food we buy at the grocery store comes from, and what it means for the health of future generations.
The film features interviews with experts such as “Fast Food Nation” author Eric Schlossser, “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” author Michael Pollan and other forward-thinking social entrepreneurs. Stonyfield Farms’ Gary Hirschberg reveals surprising truths about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.
The film also examines how some corporations put profit ahead of consumer health and workers’ safety and what role governmental regulatory agencies have played.
A discussion with MCC faculty and Phi Theta Kappa students will follow the 120-minute movie.
The event is free and open to the public. For information, call Heidi Boring at 815-455-8539 or Diane Terlep at 815-455-8538.
