Police to check up on sex offenders today

CRYSTAL LAKE – The Crystal Lake Police Department’s Targeted Response Unit today will conduct sex offender address verification compliance checks on all registered offenders residing in the city.

Police conduct “knock and talks” periodically to confirm that offenders reside at their registered addresses.

Today is Halloween, and under state law, registered child sex offenders on parole or probation are prohibited from distributing candy or other items to anyone under the age of 18 years old.

Crystal Lake has 21 offenders required to register under state law, 19 of whom are listed on the public adult Sex Offender/Violent Offender Against Youth registry. Juvenile offenders are not listed.

Last year, Crystal Lake police implemented OffenderWatch to manage registered sex offenders in the community. OffenderWatch informs law enforcement agencies about sex offenders’ movements, histories and activities in the county, state or country.

Citizens may access the Crystal Lake police OffenderWatch website anytime at www.communitynotification.com/il/crystallakepd or access the Illinois State Police website at www.isp.state.il.us/sor.

Sgt. Ron Joseph supervises the police Targeted Response Unit and can be reached at 815-356-3768 regarding registered sex offenders and noncompliance information.
