Modify standards

To the Editor:

In politics, it usually is smart to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest. For certain, you should avoid an actual conflict.

It is the County Board and their transportation committee that should solve the conflict between subdivisions with privately maintained public roads and their respective township road districts. How can it be right for board Chairman Ken Koehler to continually reappoint Anna May Miller to the position as chairperson of the Transportation Committee when she is employed as the secretary to her township road commissioner, who happens to be her husband?

How can these subdivisions ever get a fair shake when that obvious conflict is in place?

The county let these subdivisions get platted with inadequate standards that prevent them from being part of the township road system. Koehler currently is the County Board chairman. The board has the ability to modify those standards, which would allow their inclusion. Please do so.
