Police: CL standoff ends without incident

CRYSTAL LAKE – A standoff situation at a Crystal Lake apartment this morning ended without incident, according to the Crystal Lake Police Department.

Police dispersed a 10-man response team near the corner of Union Street and 2nd Court around 9 a.m. following a report of an unstable, armed man inside a home in the 200 block of Uteg Street, according to a news release.

The report came from members of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center, who stated they had received a call from the man within Crystal Lake city limits, police said.

After setting up a perimeter, negotiators from Crystal Lake were able to make contact with the man through the use of a cell phone, the release states. He later surrendered himself to authorities.

All Crystal Lake School District 47 schools were on lockdown during the incident.

The man was later transported to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock for evaluation.

He was not found to be in possession of a weapon, police said.

No one was injured during the incident.
