Police: Melrose Park man tied to McHenry vehicle thefts

McHENRY – A Melrose Park man has been charged in connection with two vehicle thefts, according to the McHenry Police Department.

Thomas M. Gibbons, 45, was charged Tuesday with two felony counts of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle. He is currently being held in DuPage County, where he was charged with possession of stolen property.

The charges revolve around two separate theft incidents Sunday in McHenry, according to a news release. A semi-tractor went missing from JA Logistics and a semi-trailer from Charles Herdrich & Son Inc.

Both vehicles were later found abandoned in a warehouse in west suburban Addison, the release states. Prior to being located, tracking software in the tractor led investigators to a separate warehouse in Bensenville.

Gibbons was identified as a tenant within the warehouse, and a search later yielded beer and alcohol that was removed from trailer during the theft, police said. A total of $20,000 worth of the beer and alcohol products were originally in the trailer.

Members of the Greater Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force, Bensenville Police Department and DuPage County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing.
