FOX LAKE – A one-car crash at Route 12 and Hartigan Road killed a Lake County man Wednesday afternoon.

The driver was identified only as  a 54-year-old Ingleside man. His silver 2002 Nissan Sentra was traveling south on Route 12, veered across the median and struck a light post on the northbound side of the road, Fox Lake police Lt. Mark Schindler said.

The crash occurred about 2:40 p.m. and closed off northbound to traffic until 7 p.m., causing major delays on Route 12 during the evening commute.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, police said.
