Zion man gets 44 years for murder solicitation

WAUKEGAN (AP) – A judge in northern Illinois has sentenced a 50-year-old Zion man to 44 years in prison for burglarizing a home and trying to have a pregnant woman and her boyfriend killed.

Lake County Circuit Judge Daniel Shanes sentenced Roderick Golden on Tuesday. A jury convicted Golden of solicitation of murder earlier this year. He also pleaded guilty to residential burglary Tuesday.

The News Sun reports that Golden and three other men went into a Waukegan woman's home while she was sleeping, tied her up, took her valuables and fled.

Prosecutors say Golden was jailed on the burglary charge when he tried to hire two different men to kill the woman and her boyfriend to stop her from testifying against him. She was five months pregnant at the time.
