Dog rescue

To the Editor:

While driving down Route 176 recently, traffic was out of control, horns blowing, no one moving. I looked out my side window and saw a pit bull running down the middle of the road. I stopped, got out and starting calling him, only to look to my left and see a grey bit bull running on the side of the road. I got the grey one in my car and proceeded to track the white one. Not one person got out of their car to help.

My friend lives on 176 and I was able to pull in her driveway. She came out and we got a leash on the white dog. I have never seen so many people put their noses in the air or look away. Was it because they were pit bulls? Or are that many people capable of turning a blind eye to a crisis?

One woman was screaming at me about the dogs. I yelled that they were not mine. She seemed shocked that I was involved. Look, these are living creatures! Everyone should have gotten out of their cars.

Thankfully, my friend and I got them. Animal Control came and they were returned to their owner. But this could have ended a very different way.

To Maggie and Benny, the gorgeous pit bulls, I am so glad you are OK and home. To my friend Claudia, thanks for being home and being a dog lover like me! To the animal control guy, you have a heart of gold.
