PAC again putting money behind U.S. Rep. Walsh

CHICAGO (AP) – A super PAC is again pumping in money to support tea party-backed U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh a week after saying it would redirect its resources to other races.

The Republican from McHenry faces a well-financed Democratic opponent, Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth. It's one of the most closely watched and volatile U.S. House campaigns in Illinois.

The Now or Never super PAC said last week that it believed Walsh was well on his way to victory, allowing it to put its money elsewhere.

But the Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday that the Missouri-based political action committee had decided to put another $1 million behind Walsh's campaign.

Its spokesman, Tyler Harber, says Duckworth is trying to "paint Congressman Walsh as a man he is not."

Walsh defeated incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean in 2010 to win Illinois' 8th Congressional District seat. At the time, Walsh moved to McHenry to live in the district. But after post-census redistricting completed by state Democratic officials, the 8th no longer will include any portion of McHenry County.

Walsh's McHenry home instead was moved into the 14th Congressional District. Rather than running against fellow Republican incumbent Randy Hultgren in the March primary, Walsh decided to seek re-election to the redrawn 8th District.
