Illinoisans reminded to swap smoke alarm batteries

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois state fire officials remind residents to change their smoke alarm batteries this weekend.

The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal says residents should change smoke alarm batteries at the same time as they set their clocks back to standard time. That's this Sunday. Fire experts say it's crucial that residents do this twice a year to make sure smoke alarms are working properly.

Illinois fire officials say families should have smoke alarms on every floor of their home. They also suggest changing batteries in flashlights, radios and carbon monoxide detectors.
