Legion looking to ID veterans' graves

ALGONQUIN – Lake in the Hills American Legion Post 1231 is working to make sure all veterans buried in the Algonquin cemetery are properly recognized with an American flag at their graves every Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

The Legion is in the process of researching, checking and looking for all locations of every veteran in the cemetery.

"Old cemetery maps have served us well since the 1950s, but sad to say, we have overlooked some deserving veterans," Legion member Jim Mertz wrote in a letter to the Northwest Herald.
