To the Editor:
I don’t mind that the Northwest Herald’s Editorial Board endorsed a candidate for president who I don’t support (Mitt Romney, Oct. 21). At least you weren’t blindly approving an incumbent, which you do about 90 percent of the time (then later railing at the ineffectiveness of the officials whom you recommended).
No, what I object to is your ridiculous editorial stating that it is the right and duty of the citizens to vote (Nov. 3).
I vote because I think it is important and it is my right. It is, however, not required. You could, in fact, argue that because it is my right, by definition I have the right not to do it.
It certainly is not my duty. Those people who choose not to vote have their reasons. They may or may not meet with the Northwest Herald’s approval, but who cares?
Pontificating is, of course, your right, and something you do on a regular basis. It would be nice if there was some rationality behind it.
