Arts alive and well

To the Editor:

Congratulations to Raue Center for the Arts on hosting an outstanding event last Saturday. The Stargazers Ball took center stage at this beautiful theater in an event to raise funds for support of arts and education here in McHenry County.

I was incredibly amazed at the talented performers and the staff who worked tirelessly to make it an enjoyable evening.

As I prepared throughout the day, shopping for shoes, visiting a local hair salon, even stopping for a quick lunch to tide me over until the event, I was struck by the economic impact that this theater has had on Crystal Lake. This impact is just as critical for a small suburban town as it is for a big city competing for companies searching for corporate headquarters.

Families want to stay in communities that are rich and diverse with significant opportunities for personal development, including music, dance, drama and visual arts. This attracts businesses eager to find employees who prefer to work and shop close to home.

McHenry County is fortunate to have a variety of options when it comes to the arts. From Raue Center for the Arts and the Woodstock Opera House to Lakeside Legacy Arts Park and Richmond’s Memorial Hall Civic Theatre, the arts are alive and well in McHenry County.

See a play, hear a concert, or just stop in an area art gallery. When you do, say “thank you” for their role in helping to promote a positive economic impact in your community.
