Blaze destroys Johnsburg home

JOHNSBURG – A home in Johnsburg was rendered uninhabitable after a large fire broke out early Saturday morning.

Crews were dispatched to 3600 Weingart Road at 3:56 a.m. It took more than an hour for crews from 12 area departments – who were called when McHenry issued a mutual-aid alarm to the second level – to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters used more than 45,000 gallons of water, the department said in a news release.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District Chief Tony Huemann was the first to arrive and found the roughly 3,000-square-foot home engulfed in fire, with flames showing from the front.

No one was injured. The homeowners were out of town at the time, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire was undetermined Saturday afternoon. It was under a joint investigation by the fire department and Johnsburg police.

Crews from Spring Grove, Wonder Lake, Richmond, Fox Lake, Woodstock, Antioch, Round Lake, Grayslake, Nunda, Crystal Lake, Huntley and Cary assisted in the incident.

The estimated amount of damage was $600,000, including the value of the home and the belongings.
