CRYSTAL LAKE – A fire Sunday at TC Industries caused about $500,000 in damage, the Crystal Lake Fire Department estimated.

About 8:05 p.m., firefighters were called to the steel fabrication business along Route 31, when a couple of machines and an oil tank caught fire, said Battalion Chief Tom Pollnow.

The fire went up a wall and burned out some of the fiberglass panels.

A fire suppression system activated and extinguished the main part of the fire, Pollnow said. Firefighters then came in and put out the fire in the vat and machines.

The fire was under control in about 25 minutes and completely out in about 45 minutes, Pollnow said.

He estimated that no more than 20 people were working during the night shift, and all of the workers were evacuated.

No injuries were reported.

Crews from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Woodstock, Fox River Grove, Nunda Rural, Carpentersville, Fox River Grove, Wauconda, Cary, McHenry Township, Lakewood, Wonder Lake, Huntley, Barrington and Marengo were called to the scene to assist.
