Winergy produces gearboxes for giant wind farm

ELGIN – Winergy Drive Systems Corp. in Elgin produced high-performance gearboxes and couplings for the largest single wind project in the U.S.

Stretching across 30 square miles in north-central Oregon, the 845-megawatt Sherperds Flat wind farm will generate enough energy to supply 235,000 average size U.S. homes.

Construction of the Caithness Energy project involved not only the installation of 338 wind turbines, but also the development of 95 miles of roads and 167 miles of transmission lines.

Winergy is the largest gearbox manufacturer for wind turbines in North America. It is located at 1401 Madeline Lane in Elgin.
