District 158, union declare impasse

ALGONQUIN – The Huntley Education Association has declared an impasse in contract negotiations with District 158, the District said.

Declaring an impasse is the last procedural move for the HEA to go on strike.

A third-party mediator has been presiding over negotiations at the district since late September. Bargaining teams reached a tentative deal in early September, but the HEA membership rejected it.

HEA’s 600-plus members authorized the union to call a strike last month.

School board members will continue to meet with the HEA tonight.
