Illinois surges in 2nd half

CHAMPAIGN – Tyler Griffey scored 17 points and Tracy Abrams had 15 Monday night, leading Illinois to an 89-64 win over St. Francis (N.Y.).

Brandon Paul added 14 points and six assists for the Illini (2-0).

Akeem Johnson led St. Francis (1-1) with 13 points.

Illinois couldn’t shake the Terriers early. St. Francis took an 11-10 lead with just less than four minutes into the game on a layup by Ben Mockford and stayed close through the first half.

No. 1 Indiana 87, N. Dakota St. 61: At Bloomington, Ind., Cody Zeller scored 22 points and Remy Abell added a career-high 14 to lead No. 1 Indiana past North Dakota State.

The Hoosiers (2-0) struggled to get in sync against the Bison (1-1).

No. 5 Michigan 91, IUPUI 54: At Ann Arbor, Mich., Trey Burke scored 22 points and Glenn Robinson III added 21, leading Michigan over IUPUI in the NIT Season Tip-Off.

No. 20 Notre Dame 84, Monmouth 57: At South Bend, Ind., Garrick Sherman had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead Notre Dame (2-0) past Monmouth (1-1).

Iowa 73, Central Michigan 61: At Iowa City, Iowa, Devyn Marble scored 18 points and Mike Gesell added 15 as Iowa (2-0) beat Central Michigan (0-1).

Minnesota 82, Toledo 56: At Minneapolis, Rodney Williams had 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals, Austin Hollins scored 10 of his 13 points in the game’s first five minutes and Minnesota (2-0) blew by Toledo (0-2).

Loyola 64, Rockhurst 41: At Chicago, Ben Averkamp had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead Loyola (2-0) past Rockhurst (0-1).

Illinois St. 100, UC Santa Barbara 72: At Normal, Jackie Carmichael had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Illinois State used a 21-0 first-half run to coast to a season-opening victory over UC Santa Barbara.

Bradley 78, Texas-Pan American 61: At Peoria, Will Egloff and Walt Lemon Jr. scored 14 points apiece as Bradley (2-0) defeated Texas-Pan American (0-2).

S. Illinois 72, New Orleans 55: At New Orleans, Jeff Early obliterated his previous career best with 27 points as the Salukis (1-0) defeated New Orleans (1-1).
