Local hair salon gives back to community

ALGONQUIN – Janet Rabig of Huntley, owner of Scissor Happy Hair Studio in Algonquin, has taken the spirit of holiday giving to the next level. For the month of November, every guest who brings in a donation for the Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Food Pantry will receive $5 in Beauty Bucks to use on services and a turkey with their name to hang on the wall of the salon (one certificate per drop off, but multiple drop offs are encouraged).

“A friend and client of mine volunteers at the food pantry every week,” Rabig said. “She explained that they were serving probably more than over 300 local families on a regular basis and it just felt like there was a need there and that’s where I needed to put my energy.”

Giving back to the community is not a novel concept for Rabig. As a new business owner just starting out in 2011, she offered free haircuts to those looking for work. Knowing money was tight for many families, she felt driven to help those who needed to look great for job interviews.
