Illinois woman who stabbed mother gets 6 years

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — A southwestern Illinois woman has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting she stabbed her 74-year-old mother during a dispute over the daughter's drinking.

The (Alton) Telegraph reported Wednesday that 45-year-old Jan Madison of Bethalto pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and aggravated driving under the influence.

The mother and daughter lived together. Authorities say the women were arguing last December about Madison's drinking at their home. They say Madison then attacked the mother with a kitchen knife.
