JA Frate collecting items for troops

CRYSTAL LAKE – JA Frate will collect items Saturday for comfort packages to assist Operation Support Our Troops – America.

The collection will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the company, 7900 Pyott Road, Crystal Lake.

Operation Support Our Troops – America, based in Naperville, sends packages to troops and collects money to pay for the shipping overseas.

The items that are most needed are foot powder (14 ounces or less), antacids, nasal spray, eyedrops, cold medicines (but no liquids), vitamins (100 count or less), anti-itch or antibiotic creams, pain relievers (Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, etc., 100 count or less), cotton swabs (70 count or smaller), dental floss and floss picks, body lotion for men (18 ounces or less, small tube preferred), body wash for men (18 ounces or less), shaving cream (non-aerosol), lip balm, white or black athletic socks (crew length with no visible logos), purse or pocket packs of tissues, AA or AAA batteries, canned pasta or soup (28 ounces or less), beef jerky or Slim Jims, crackers (16 ounces or less), granola bars, tuna, microwave popcorn, cold drink mix packets (Propel, Gatorade, etc., to add to bottled water), 1-pound bags or cans of ground coffee, individual packets of powdered creamer and canned nuts (20 ounces or less).

Those who cannot donate items may make a monetary donation to help cover the cost of shipping a package. The cost is $25 a package. Checks payable to Operation Support Our Troops – America Inc. may be mailed to OSOT America, 1807 S. Washington St., Suite 110, No. 359, Naperville, IL 60565. Donations are tax deductible.

Participants also are encouraged to write a letter. Every care package includes at least one letter from a citizen. Letter writers are asked to use the greeting “Dear military person” and to not seal the envelopes. A name and address may be included so the individual can write back.

JA Frate also is a Toys for Tots drop-off location. New, unwrapped toy donations will be accepted.
