Algonquin police seek accreditation

ALGONQUIN – The Algonquin Police Department is seeking input from residents while police prepare for a meeting with state accreditation officials.

A team from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program will arrive Nov. 28 to examine all aspects of the Algonquin Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support services as the department seeks accreditation, Police Chief Russell Laine announced recently.

There will be two assessors assigned to Algonquin’s assessment team: team leader, Sycamore Police Chief Don Thomas and Lt. Joseph Mitchell of the Orland Park Police Department.

The accreditation program through the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police “has helped us ensure we have the necessary policies in place to effectively realize our department’s goals and objectives,” Laine said.

As part of the process, members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team by telephone.

The public may call 847-658-2756 between 2 and 4 p.m. Nov. 28.

Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes each and must address the agency’s ability to comply with ILEAP standards.

Copies of the standards are available at the Algonquin Police Department, 2200 Harnish Drive, Algonquin.

Accreditation is meant to ensure that police are upholding the highest standards of law enforcement practices, including training, procedures and policy.

Those who are unable to make telephone comments at the designated time may also contact Thomas at the Sycamore Police Department at 815-895-3435.
