ISLAND LAKE – An Island Lake man arrested Thursday exchanged explicit photographs with a juvenile and used intimidation to continue their correspondence over social media, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.
Douglas J. Carlson, 43, is charged with harmful material and intimidation, both felonies, after a three month investigation.
Carlson contacted the juvenile numerous times and eventually sent explicit photographs, obtaining explicit photos from the juvenile in return, according to a news release. Carlson leveraged the photos he received from the juvenile to get more, threatening to show the pictures to the juvenile's friend if he didn't get what he wanted, the release said.
Police arrested Carlson without incident Thursday in Island Lake.
The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending, authorities said.
Authorities urge people to report illegal Internet activity by calling local police or the sheriff's office at 815-338-2144.
