MCC offering craft classes

CRYSTAL LAKE – McHenry County College’s Continuing Education Department is offering a couple of new classes to add a little sparkle and fun for the holidays.

Residents can learn how to create a box-stitch bracelet using beads, crystals and pearls Nov. 30 or create a gingerbread house for the holidays Dec. 1.

• “Crystal and Pearl Stitched Bracelet” class will instruct participants on the creation of a box-stitch bracelet using seed beads, Swarovski crystals and pearls. Needles, thread, clasps and seed beads are included.

A supply list for crystals and pearls will be provided. Class will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 30 in Room D152 at the college, 8900 Route 14.

The cost is $25. Use course ID: NCF S84 011 when registering.

• “Create a Holiday Gingerbread House” will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1.

Participants should come to class with baked gingerbread house pieces and a batch of royal icing. Participants will first “glue” the house together with pulled sugar and then create decorations to cover the rest of the house.

Participants also should bring a large plate or platter to place the creation on, along with a decorating bag or zip-lock bag and a few frosting tips to create interesting designs. The instructor will supply the candies and other ideas to help each student create their house. The house will be finished by the end of the class.

Class will be from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 1 in Room D154. The cost is $22. Use course ID: NCU S80 012 when registering.

To register, call the MCC Registration Office at 815-455-8588. For information, call Tracy Berry at 815-455-8758 or Dori Smith at 815-455-8559.
