Source: Cubs agree to deal with Navarro

CHICAGO – A person familiar with the situation said the Cubs agreed on terms of a contract with former All-Star catcher Dioner Navarro.

The person spoke Thursday on the condition of anonymity because the team has not announced details and terms were not immediately known. MLB.com first reported the deal.

Navarro was an All-Star with Tampa Bay in 2008 and spent most of the past season in Cincinnati’s minor-league system. He hit .290 in 24 games for the Reds last year.

Cubs say Garza’s elbow healing as expected

CHICAGO – The Cubs said pitcher Matt Garza can resume his normal offseason routine after a scan this week showed the right-hander’s pitching elbow is healing as expected.

Garza suffered a stress reaction against St. Louis on July 21 and missed the rest of the season.
