ELGIN – The Alden-Hebron girls basketball A-H girls basketball takes 3rd in tourney

ELGIN – The Alden-Hebron girls basketball team captured third place at the Elgin Academy Tournament with a 52-32 win over Woodlands Academy.

The Giants (2-1) came out strong, outscoring the Wildcats 29-12 in the first half. A-H held Woodland to two second-quarter points while scoring 16.

“We came out with a big sense of urgency and knew what we wanted to do,” Giants coach Jen Nichols said. “We got up and stayed up.”

Sparkle Lagerhausen led A-H with 18 points and Jordan Person added 11.

Marissah Knoll, who had eight points, was named to the all-tournament team for the Giants.

Harvard Pre-Turkey Tournament: At Harvard, Crystal Lake Central took the tournament title, defeating Rockford East, 50-32.

Evelyn Youel and Shannon Ellman each had 11 points to lead the Tigers (5-0), with Paige Dowell adding 10.

Central defeated Genoa-Kingston, 44-10, earlier in the day behind 13 points from Youel.

Harvard took third in its tournament, defeating Genoa-Kingston 41-35 in overtime. The Hornets (2-2) picked up their first win of the season on the day also, beating Round Lake 34-21.

Randi Blazier led Harvard in both games, scoring 15 against the Cogs and 11 against the Panthers. Abby Linhart added 11 points against G-K and nine against Round Lake.

Youel, Ellman, Dowell and Kelsey Schmitt were named to the all-tournament team for the Tigers, with Blazier and Sam McCloud making it for the Hornets.

Mundelein Tournament: At Mundelein, Prairie Ridge took second place after defeating Highland Park, 45-34.

The Wolves (4-1) were led by Marissa Gerstbrein’s 13 points. Gerstbrein and Kelsey Bear were named to the all-tournament team for Prairie Ridge.

Vernon Hills Cougar Classic: At Vernon Hills, Woodstock North fell, 45-36, to host Vernon Hills.

The Thunder (1-2) were led by Emma Everly’s 11 points, including three three-pointers, and Sami Ahr added nine, with seven coming in the second half.

Lake Zurich Turkey Thriller Tournament: At Lake Zurich, Cary-Grove lost its first game of the season, falling 56-33 to Fremd.

Kylie Smith led the Trojans (2-1) with 12 points and Olivia Jakubicek added 10 points and five steals.

Burlington Central Tournament: At Burlington, Marengo dropped both of its games, falling 42-31 to Harlem and 66-36 to Belvidere North.

Jessica Villie led the Indians (0-3) in both games, scoring 12 against Harlem and 16 against Belvidere North. Lynsey Hoeske added 10 points against Harlem.

Woodstock also fell in both of its games, losing 77-41 against Belvidere North and 54-35 to Harlem.

Cody Brand led the Blue Streaks (1-2) with 15 points against Harlem, and Amber Roberts had 10 points against Belvidere North.

BOYS BOWLING

Rockford Guilford Tournament: At Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, Marengo took 14th place out of 26 teams with a score of 3,530.

Dakota Termini led the Indians with a 766 series and a high-game of 235, and Dustin Termini added a 721 series.
