Human Race thanks

To the Editor:

As we head into the third annual McHenry County Human Race season, we want to publicly thank a few key businesses that are making the April 21, 2013, race possible: McHenry County Community Foundation is the 2013 presenting sponsor.

Other key sponsors include Illinois State Bank, Covidien, Northwest Herald, Centegra Health System, Sage Products, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Mercy Health System, New Balance, The Running Depot, and the Jeffery Prickett family.

These sponsors allow us to put on the race and give away more than $2,400 in cash prizes, all benefiting local charities!

In its first two years, the Human Race raised more than $135,000 and helped 48 local charities. Last year, nearly 900 individuals registered to walk or run. This race does a tremendous job of supporting the entire community. Each racer chooses what nonprofit organization will receive the proceeds of their registration fee and any fundraising they do. Money from the race also supports local volunteerism.

Please consider joining the Human Race. Register early so you can raise funds to help a local charity close to your heart. Visit www.mchumanrace.org for more information. Early registration is through the month of December. Individuals can get last year’s online price of $25.

Not-For-Profit Resources (the volunteer center) manages the Human Race. We also provide a web-based tool that matches people with organizations that need volunteers. We provide training that influences the leadership, volunteer base, and community support of the local nonprofit agency. For more information, visit volunteermchenrycounty.org.
