Ali Frantti

Richmond-Burton, jr., outside hitter

Frantti was nearly unstoppable on the attack en route to the Rockets’ first appearance at state in school history. Frantti, the 2012 Northwest Herald Player of the Year, tallied 557 kills – 10th most in a single season in IHSA history – and led R-B to a Class 3A state runner-up finish. She was more than just their go-to hitter, recording 232 digs, 72 aces and 54 blocks.

Alyssa Ehrhardt

Jacobs, sr., outside hitter

A four-year starter who never missed a match, Ehrhardt shined behind a powerful and crafty kills while utilizing an aggressive serve. Ehrhardt left an indelible mark on Jacobs’ program, compiling 451 kills to finish with 1,342 kills in her career which are 15th most in IHSA history. She also recorded 144 aces this year to end her career with 357 aces, third best in IHSA history and the most during a 42-match season.

Mackenzi Humm

Prairie Ridge, sr.,

setter/right side hitter

The versatile senior did it all for the Wolves. Humm led Prairie Ridge with 497 assists, adding 193 kills, second most on the team, and 212 digs. She also posted the most blocks (87) in the area by a nonmiddle blocker. Humm’s leadership not only helped guide Prairie Ridge to a share of its first Fox Valley Conference division title since 2009, but brought the Wolves within one win of state.

Lauren Leverenz

Crystal Lake Central, jr.,

middle blocker

Leverenz boasted an all-around game uncommon among middle blockers as a threat on offense with an ability to play the back row. She dominated at the net, pounding 253 kills to pace the Tigers, and delivered steady defense with her 197 digs. Leverenz’s consistency and ability to deliver a pivotal kill fueled Central’s 12-0 finish in the FVC Fox Division for its fourth consecutive title.

Tara Blake

Marian Central, sr., outside hitter

Blake’s unselfishness led to her moving to setter to start the season, a position she had never played, before switching back to her natural position as an outside hitter. It didn’t matter where Blake played, however, as she amassed 283 kills to lead the Hurricanes as well as 155 assists and 270 digs. Her combination of leadership and versatility on the court carried Marian to a third consecutive sectional final.

Megan Davis

Johnsburg, sr., setter

Davis, a four-year starter, took control on the court for the Skyhawks to run an efficient offense. She tallied 689 assists but also looked to take advantage of the defense, posting 104 kills. Davis’ 74 aces were third most by any area player and despite running the offense, the second-year captain recorded 205 digs. She also contributed at the net, delivering 51 blocks.

Paige Dacanay

Prairie Ridge, sr., libero

For a team that thrived using multiple hitters, Dacanay’s steady passing and leadership in the back row turned the Wolves into one of the toughest offenses to defend running their 6-2 system. Dacanay’s accurate passing and ability to dig even the toughest shots consistently provided Prairie Ridge set-ready balls. Dacanay recorded 393 digs, averaging 4.18 digs per set.
