D-300 union submits strike notice

CARPENTERSVILLE – District 300's teachers union earlier this week formally filed an intent to strike notice, a procedural move that doesn't necessarily mean a strike is imminent, union officials said.

LEAD 300 President Kolleen Hanetho said the union delivered the notice to the district and Regional Board of Education shortly before entering into another bargaining session Tuesday evening.

The earliest the union's 1,300 teachers can strike is Dec. 4, Hanetho said. But she said the union still is committed to brokering a new deal with the district board.
